PACE 2008
Due to the success of the organizing efforts of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 36 in recent years, Business Manager Grant Mitchell was invited to speak at the 2008 Paint and Coatings Expo (PACE), which took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, January 27-30. Since 1996, the hours worked by new District Council 36 painting signatories has risen every year from just over 2,500 hours in 1996, topping one million hours in 2005, and continues to rise.

As all of our members know, safety is priority #1 among Ironworkers. We stress it in everything we do. Local 416 and 433 apprentices must spend days and weeks in the classroom learning about safety. Our veteran Journeymen are constantly going back for safety retraining and to refresh their knowledge base.

Like most other Unions we annually graduate apprentices, recognize the fact that they are our future, start a new batch of apprentices. As a result, the cycle of 'come and go' continues. These new journeymen spend the rest of their careers battling economic turmoil, extreme weather conditions and tortuous traffic jams, yet they still manage to survive these uphill battles for several years and in some cases, decades.
