09_08_06.jpgThis Spring Semester at UA Local 250 we had a three college credit labor studies course, “The Working Class and Cinema”, taught by Katrina del Valle Thompson.  These off campus college credit courses are provided by the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College Labor Studies Department and taught at local union halls.  We had 25 students in our class representing several unions:  IBEW 18, UA 250, SEIU 347, IATSE 80, CWA 9510, CSEA, and NALC.

These are open enrollment classes.  Everyone is welcome at UA 250.  By taking these college transferable credit classes you can earn a certificate in “Labor Studies” or get an Associate of Arts Degree in “Labor Studies”.  The instructors are all involved in the day to day operations of unions.  They have practical experience and formal educational qualifications.

This Fall Semester 2006 UA Local 250 will have “Organizing Strategies/Techniques” taught by Tersa Conrow.  She has been involved in organizing in Los Angeles, Australia, and South America. If you or your union want to know how to recruit new members this course is for you.  There is not a better more economical way to get focused training.  The course will run for 16 weeks.  It will meet every Thursday night from 6:00PM-9:10PM. starting September 5, 2006.  The enrollment fee is $78 payable to Los Angeles Trade-Technical College.  (This is the standard fee for all community colleges for a 3 credit course).  The course is designed for everyday rank and file and officers.

We always have an entertaining and focused study plan that benefits every class member.  Please contact Art Guzman, at UA Local 250, 18355 S. Figueroa, Gardena Ca Telephone 310-660-0035 if you need more information or Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, 400 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles Ca. 90015 Phone 213-763-7129
