Craft members who work in high places often wear full-body harnesses to help prevent injurious or fatal falls. Trouble is, once a fall victim hangs from the typical harness for even a few seconds, its straps cause considerable discomfort or pain in the legs and the groin. Worse, prolonged suspension disrupts blood circulation and can cause severe injuries as the brain, kidneys, and other organs are deprived of oxygen. The new AOSafety Safe-Waze Rescue Step tackles the problem head on. Weighing less than a quarter-pound, it’s a 70-inch-long polyester web that folds up and attaches at the harness’s D-ring. Fall victims pull a tab to deploy the Rescue Step, and then stand on one of its stirrups for support until they’re rescued.
