Due to the success of the organizing efforts of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 36 in recent years, Business Manager Grant Mitchell was invited to speak at the 2008 Paint and Coatings Expo (PACE), which took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, January 27-30. Since 1996, the hours worked by new District Council 36 painting signatories has risen every year from just over 2,500 hours in 1996, topping one million hours in 2005, and continues to rise. 636 Apprenticeship Graduation The Local Union 636 Apprentice graduation ceremony for winter 2007 took place January 29 at the District Council 36 Glaziers Training Center in Garden Grove. After enjoying a barbeque dinner, each new Journeyman was presented with a completion certificate and a Carhartt jacket by Apprenticeship Coordinator Ed Garcia on behalf of the Glaziers Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Along with friends and family, on hand to extend their congratulations were District Council 36 Business Manager Grant Mitchell, IUPAT General President James A. Williams, members of the IUPAT Executive Board, and Daniel Villao of the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council. The graduating class included: Juan Franquez Brandy Sanchez Melvin Williams Brandon Kerr Garrett Benner Waylon Boyer David Cozart Albert Delgado Gilbert Santiago, Jr. Mark Pina McArthur Williams Everett Courter Apprentices who were nominated by their instructor as being the Outstanding Apprentice in their class were awarded certificates and hand tools: Eduardo Rodriguez Edgar Colon James Halpin David Duenas Paul Paris, Jr. Brandon Sanchez Jose Mercado Garrett Benner Melvin Williams Raymond Olmos Paul Guerra Apprentices who completed welding class and passed the American Welding Society practical test were awarded welding jackets: Tomas Murillo Richard Alanis Mike Galstaun Ben Rhamy Mohammed Haidar Paul Paris, Jr. Daniel Mendez Instructor Of The Year: Henry Rivas |
