Thirty members of UA 250 completed a safety course and received their WOSH (Worker’s Occupational Safety and Heath) Specialist Certification from the UCLA-LOSH (Labor Occupational Safety and Health) Program. As a result of this class UA 250 is implementing a Health and Safety Committee.

Other unions represented in the most recent class include IBEW 18, USW 8957, CSEA 57, SEIU 660, ILWU 13 and CWA 9400.

Some class members are already putting their new knowledge to use by submitting requests to CalOSHA to keep the heat stress directive and expand it to cover work inside boiler rooms, utility rooms where temperatures are excessive to work in. Other students who have union/management safety committees are working to reorganize those committees to serve the best interest of all who work in their facilities.

Union members introduced in the UCLA-LOSH program are encouraged to visit their website at http://www.losh.ucla.edu/.
