It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of Brother Art Martinez, Sr. Brother Martinez was Financial Secretary/Business Manager Emeritus of Cement Masons Local 500. He was elected a business agent for his local in 1971 and served until 1986, when he was unanimously elected to be Financial Secretary/Business Manager – a position he held until his retirement in 2001. Martinez was a strong leader and dedicated to the well being of his fellow union members. Among his many accomplishments was his influential role in the merger of Locals 52, 97, 523 and 744 to form what is now known was Local 500. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
